Before taking a favourite build into a proper multiplayer match, give it a few minutes in controlled conditions. During the August 2026 Beta, the Modern Warfare 4 Firing Range is useful because it answers the stuff a menu cannot: whether the sight feels right, whether recoil drifts off centre, and how fast a target actually drops. Players spending time in MW4 Bot Lobbies may want the same kind of warm-up, yet the range lets them isolate the weapon first. Your multiplayer record is untouched, so there is no reason not to try a strange optic, a lighter setup, or a weapon you would normally leave alone.
Get there from Gunsmith
The quickest route starts from the multiplayer screen. Open Weapons, choose Create a Class, then select the weapon you want to inspect. Enter Gunsmith and look for the Firing Range prompt. On a controller, it is commonly tied to the left trigger; on PC, use the on-screen control or your assigned key. It loads fast, which matters more than it sounds. You can test one adjustment, return to the build screen, then jump straight back in without losing your train of thought.
| What you see | Why it matters | | Accuracy | Shows whether your shots stay on target. | | Damage Done | Helps compare close and distant hits. | | Time To Kill | Reveals how quickly a setup finishes a target. | | Moving Target Range | Tests tracking against motion. |
Use the numbers, not just the feeling
The three lanes give you a simple way to check close, mid-distance, and longer shots. Start with the nearest target, then move outward. That order makes recoil changes easier to spot. The display in the upper-left tracks targets killed, accuracy, total damage, moving-target distance, and time to kill. Do not judge a build from one magazine. Fire several groups, reset your aim, and repeat. You will soon notice whether a weapon is genuinely steady or whether one lucky burst fooled you.
Test the same target distance after every change.
Try both still targets and moving targets.
Watch impact marks instead of guessing at recoil.
Keep changes small, one part at a time.
Build around your own habits
You can pause while inside and swap parts, optics, or tuning settings without backing all the way out. That makes the range far more useful than a one-off warm-up. If an assault rifle feels slow to recover, change one element and run the same drill again. If a sniper scope feels cramped, test it at the far lane before committing. A few focused minutes here can make your next session in Bot Lobby MW4 feel much more purposeful, and you will enter regular matches knowing what your weapon can really do.
